From Esquel Drive on Fontana Av. to Laguna La Zeta, 12kms (7.5 miles) on the gravel road until reaching Aldea Rio Percy. After crossing a bridge over the Percy river, the mountain road starts. This road is narrower and has greater slopes; drive 7kms (4.3 miles) reaching Estancia Huemules. On this road, you will find wooden signs with the Huemules logo indicating the way.

This second part of the trip does not have any detours and it takes you right to the gate of the Estancia, so it is impossible to get lost. It starts right at the River, traverses the village and enters into the Lenga forest as you gain altitude. When you get to the Estancia gate, you’ll see a sign that reads "Huemules - Reserva de Montaña"Open (and then close) the gate and follow the road about 3kms (1.8 miles).This section is almost completely inside the forest and you will have to cross two creeks: the first one, in a curve, is only a few inches deep and the second one is just a few yards from our Reception Building. This second creek is bigger, but it can be easily crossed. After traversing it, you’ll arrive at the Huemules parking lot.

During the summer the road is easily accessible with any kind of vehicle, though we recommend to travel at low speed because it is very irregular and winding. Travel time from the city of Esquel is approximately between 40 minutes and one hour, first through a long valley and then entering the mountains and the Andean Patagonian forest. Getting to Huemules is part of the experience, and a most enjoyable one.

You can only access Huemules with prior booking, both for staying at the Reserve or for spending a Mountain Day. In winter, previous coordination is required. We offer transfers from the Airport, Esquel, Bariloche and surrounding areas. Do not hesitate to contact us in order to arrange the transfer.
