Our History

Horseback Riding, Trekking and Mountain Bike

The numerous canyons, valleys and meadows of Estancia Huemules have historically been "veranadas", high places with abundant pastures and water for the farm. This era was herded during the summer more than 150 years ago, before the arrival of the Welsh in 1886, and then by these settlers who continued with the practice that characterizes livestock production that continues to this day, since Estancia Huemules also used it for grazing until two years ago.

It was there when the idea that its current owners incubated since they discovered their territory 40 years ago came to fruition: preserve its nature to show it to 21st century travelers.

A few decades ago, mining was exploited on one of its countless slopes, and some of its forests were used for timber, but now its imposing nature is preserved for the contemplation and enjoyment of our guests.

All our actions have a single framework: Do what we believe, and we believe in sustainability. We have converted the 6 thousand hectares into a Mountain Reserve, we have chosen geodesic domes to house our privileged visitors because it is the strongest structure to withstand the Patagonian climate but more graceful and with less impact on the natural environment, we have used recycled wood in our furniture, we have hired 100% local personnel and companies, we have trained our people in the environmental management of our service, we have built an advanced sewage liquid treatment system that sterilizes waste in a clean and odor-free way, we have designed an energy system based on the eternal hydrological cycle. Because in that way and with that objective we are paying tribute to Patagonia and its people.

Mountain Bike

The most hidden places

And we believe in the rhythms of nature: That's why your experience will be unique, in silence. But full: of activity, of flavors, of sounds of the wind, of the streams and of the birds, of movement and calm.

Our Environmental Policy and Management

Our project contemplates the following actions

Reserve

We converted the 6 thousand hectares into a Mountain Reserve, intended for excursions in small groups and contemplation of nature.

Native forest

We design the rooms and restaurant sectors based on sectors without forest and existing roads.

Domes

We chose the strongest structure to withstand the Patagonian climate but the most graceful and with the least impact on the natural environment: geodesic domes to accommodate our privileged visitors.

Wood

We use 100% recycled wood in the construction of our decking, kitchen and furniture structure.

Energy

We designed an energy system based on the eternal hydrological cycle, complemented by the use of dead wood in low-consumption stoves.

Waste

We built a state-of-the-art sewage treatment system that sterilizes waste cleanly and odor-free.

Zero waste

We implement the “zero waste” concept: organic waste goes to compost which is then used as fertilizer in our garden, recyclables go to the municipal solid waste treatment plant.

Plastics

We use a minimum of plastics in our amenities and supplies: glass or recyclable containers, detergents, biodegradable soap and shampoo, dispensers, glass cups, cloth napkins, among others.

Training

We train all our staff as actors of the environmental management plan.
